colin and i drove down to duncan, ok last night for the last football game of the regular season for the el reno indians. if we won the game we would be the district champions and host 2 of the post season games at home (meaning more sideline work, and money, for me!). it was a little chilly in the stands, but i brought a sweater, 2 blankets, mittens, and knitting. knitting with 100% wool kept my hands warm, so i let colin wear the mittens, which he appreciated. i don't think he was ever quite as warm as i was.

anyways, so el reno played pretty good and we ended up beating the duncan demons 21-7. at the end of the game, all the el reno fans rushed the field and we all celebrated. on the way home, colin and i stopped to get something to eat at the burger king in town. when we were done eating, we headed out to the car and i noticed that the Obama 08 sticker i had on my back window had been half ripped off. now, considering that duncan is 10 miles south of marlow, OK which still has an active KKK chapter, i was pretty sure that either someone at the football game or someone at BK had fucked with my sticker. i was so angry. that's so petty and childish. needless to say, i will never be traveling to duncan, ok ever again.

everything else is going well. concession stand work starts again on monday. i'm looking forward to having lots of time to knit while other people work. i just hate having to spend so much time out in el reno for this. if i lived out there it wouldn't be a big deal because i could go home and pet kitties in between school and working the concession stand. as it is now, i have to spend from 7 am until usually 10 pm out in el reno and then drive home, sleep, and get up and do it again the next day. it makes for some truly stressful times.

well, it's time to relax on my only real day off a week. maybe i can talk colin into doing some bowling today... before having to go to sam's club and buying stuff to stock up the concession stand.

it's time to fight some moblins.

things have been quite busy in the past 2 weeks. i spent a lot of my time working on my halloween costume. i went as link from the legend of zelda. i first started by knitting a green stocking cap and a pair of gauntlets. after that i spent a great deal of time cutting out sword shapes in green foam.

once i had the shapes cut out i drilled off the edges using my newly bought rotory tool. then i drill a small bit out of the back of each piece and glued them to a dowl.

then i cut out the hilt from seperate pieces of foam and glued them at the base of the sword. i cut small pieces of blue fun foam and glued them on to the very end of the dowl to cushion my hand when holding the sword. before i painted the whole thing silver and blue, here's what it looked like:while i waited for the paint to dry very slowly on foam i worked on the sheild. i cut the basic shape out of a think piece of foam board and painted it blue. on a thinner piece of foam board i retraced the basic design and then drew in the edging around the sword and colin printed off patterns from the sword, which i used as a stencil for the rest of the sword design. i painted the pieces silver, yellow, and red and needed and then hot glued it all onto the blue sheild i originally painted:

while waiting for paint to dry on the sheild i sewed together the green tunic using a butterick pattern. i also made a belt out of random black material i found over by my knitting stash, and i made a basic looking boot pattern using some imitation leather, a pair of old sneakers i never wear anymore, and some elastic. once i had everything dry and put together, the outfit looked pretty great:

the costume was a HUGE hit with the students. i was told by many a student that my costume was by far the best one of the day. one of my senior students and another kid who i had both last year and the year before said they would have to come back to visit the school next year just to see what mrs. newman was dressed up as. the costume was a ton of work by totally worth it. i had a great time being link.

i've had various different blogs on the internet and it always comes to a point where i've outgrown the old and it's time for the new. this is the newest of the new.

things are busy: i'm working furiously on my halloween costume, i've been working essentially two jobs, i knitted a hat for a student and now have a huge list of other knitting to do for other students, just found out my dad is smoking weed, you know... the usual stuff.

well, it's time to work through the worksheet i made for my algebra 3 class and then head to bed. halloween prop #1 currently has its first coat of paint drying. yay!
